Flying Around The World

Why?

In these days of restrictions and a worldwide Pandemic, I spent a great deal of time browsing the Microsoft Flight Simulator Forums reading and passing the time when I came across an excellent post by an individual named Gordon Greig:

Now I do not know Gordon but his blog inspired me to try and do something similar. Gordon's adventures looked truly amazing and huge amounts of fun, as well as providing a great reason to see as much of the world as I can within this incredible simulator.

I have flown flight sims for over 35 years but I would not class myself in any way as an expert albeit I try to do the best I can within a very technical genre of gaming. However, for me, the beauty of this genre is the experience of achievement and accomplishment when you make that landing in gale force winds, or navigate around a weather system or just see some beautiful sunsets and sights as well as master some very technical aircraft and their systems/procedures.

I aim to cover every Continent and see as much of each Continent as possible. This could, realistically, take many, many months to do and will require many, many hours of flying as the world in this sim is exactly the same in scale and size as the world we live in - only digitised. I started at Prestwick Airport in Scotland on 21st February 2021 and I will be taking the long way round the globe. This isn't about how fast I can do it - it's about the journey.

Because this is a sim there are no storylines - so it's about setting your own goals and making your own highlights.

I have chosen to fly a General Aviation (GA) aircraft, Flysimware's Cessna Chancellor 414AW (amazing product), as it is propeller driven and generally flies at lower altitudes thereby you can see things better. So this in itself increases the time as I will not be flying a jet at 30,000 feet. This is the trade off - if you want to see the world, you wont see much from way up in the heavens.

So, welcome aboard and I hope you enjoy some of my posts, pictures and musings and please feel free to comment.
